About 9,000 youth have registered with the State Entrepreneur Development Mission, announced in the Budget for the current year, in the first phase, Finance Minister K. M. Mani said here on Friday. They included doctors and engineers.
As many as 3,052 ventures were proposed in first phase when registrations ended. The largest number of registration of ventures was from Malappuram district- 431. This was followed by Thiruvananthapuram with registration of 412 ventures.
The Minister said that district level selection of entrepreneurs for assistance had started by the nodal agency, the Kerala Financial Corporation. The Rural Self Employment Training Institute would impart training for the selected entrepreneurs in January and February this year in batches of 30.
The Mission targeted creation of one lakh employment opportunities for youth by setting up 10000 small scale enterprises. About five lakh people would get indirect employment. Groups of five professional would be given up to Rs. 20 lakh as interest-free loans for setting up self-employment ventures.
