The state government on Tuesday decided to adopt the Union government’s Ayush mission in the state by strengthening the capacity of ayurveda, homeopathy, unani, naturopathy and siddha in the state hospitals, and boosting avenues for medical education in these fields.
The state cabinet decided to form a State Ayush Society to implement the Centre’s mission in the state. The Centre has agreed to fund 60 per cent of the expenses for the Ayush mission for 2015-16, while the state will bear the rest.
“We will improve services of Ayush sciences in government medical hospitals under the mission. We will also strengthen the medical education capacity and boost the availability of medicines required for these sciences. We will also set up a machinery to test medicines under these streams,” said a state government official.
Besides, the state agriculture department will also assist the society in encouraging farmers to grow medicinal plant and herbs, and look after their storage and distribution.
