Minister says Ayush will open 50-bed hospitals in each district
Union Minister of State for Ayush Shripad Yasso Naik has said that the Central Research Institute for Homoeopathy in Kottayam will soon be upgraded to international standards.
The Minister said the procedures for upgrading the institution, functioning under the Ayush (Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy) Department, will start within a month.
“The upgrading will help the institute conduct studies and researches of international standards,” he said adding the Ministry would start institutions on the lines of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in all States to promote research in alternative systems of medicine.
Mr. Naik reached Thrissur to attend the second anniversary celebrations of the BJP government at the Centre.
Traditional medicines
“The Indian government recently signed a memorandum of understanding with the World Health Organisation (WHO) to develop a global protocol for promoting traditional and complementary medicines. The agreement will help develop the basic WHO benchmark documents for training and practice of Indian systems of medicines,” the Minister said.
Mr. Naik said the MoU would help improve the quality and service delivery of the Indian systems of medicines andadd to its global acceptability.
Ayush would open 50-bed hospitals in each district, the Minister said adding that the Centre would bear 60 per cent of the expense for the hospitals.
“Every village in the country will have a yoga wellness centre soon. An amount ranging from Rs.6 lakh to Rs.12 lakh will be provided for the centre a year. Yoga will be an optional subject in schools and colleges.’’
The NDA government would explore the wellness tourism possibilities of Kerala, he said.
He said people-friendly policies of the Modi government had improved the quality of life of people in the country. Commenting on the austerity measures of the NDA government, he said the present government had managed to cut the monthly expense of the Ministry by Rs.25 crore by reducing the number of Ministers to 65 from 80 during the UPA government.
