For addressing this need of Public Health System, School of Health System Studies at Tata Institute of Social Sciences Mumbai in collaboration of National Health Systems Resource Centre have launched a PG Diploma in Healthcare Quality Management.
Improving Quality of Services in Public Hospital and public health programs is also the priority of Ministry Health & Family Welfare Government of India. With this intention Government has launched Quality Assurance Programme and for supporting the programme has launched Quality Standards for the Public Health Facilities. The Quality Assurance Programme requires establishment of ‘Quality Assurance Units’ at the state and district level as well as quality&hospital managers for the implementation of the programme at the hospital level.
Though various institutions have been conducting hospital /health care management courses in the country, however there is training programme on Health Care Quality Management, which addresses peculiar needs of the Public Health System is available.
The programme is targeted for clinical and management professionals working in the Health care sector and are committed to the cause of ‘Quality of Care’ holistically.
Following are key feature of programme-
  1. The course is primarily designed for those professionals, who are not in position to take one year off time from their jobs for advanced learning.
  2. There will be two semesters with contact classes of seventeen (17) days on commencement of each semester. Evaluation will be done though written examination and assignments.  On successful completion of course Tata Institute of Social Sciences will provide a “PG Diploma in Health Care Quality Management”
  3. There are total fifteen (15) courses, eight courses in the first semester and remaining seven in the second semester.
There is provision of sponsorship for candidates working in government hospitals and health programs through National Health Mission (NHM). The candidates, working in the State’s/ UTs Public Health System may apply to the Mission Director, NHM. Regular Officials of State’s Health Department are expected to have at least five years residual service, and applicants on contractual appointment are expected to execute a bond for serve for a minimum period of three years to avail the benefits of proposed sponsorship under the NHM.
